Lung cancer champion
“If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Get checked early and be persistent.”
June’s story
June was living a full and happy life, working in a job she loved for the Federal Government, travelling across Australia. She spent her free time cooking, sewing, preserving food, and growing fruit and vegetables on the farm with her husband.
Life was steady and joyful until she started noticing small changes, such as upper back pain, weight loss, and recurring lung infections. At first, she thought it was just a bad mattress or side effects from a surgery that she had just undergone.
Eventually, a sharp pain under her ribs led to a CT scan, and after further tests, June was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2021. It had spread to both lungs, her adrenal gland, and lymph nodes.
With support from her faith, family, and friends, June found strength and purpose, writing a book, hosting friends, restoring furniture, and joining lung cancer advocacy groups.
June’s advice:
“If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Get checked early and be persistent.”
June’s story is a reminder that lung cancer can affect anyone, even non-smokers. Early diagnosis gives you the best chance to keep doing the things you love.
