Kitty ’s story

Life in Busselton was settled and happy in the lead-up to Christmas. Kitty was working week on/week off in an electrical role.

Although Kitty had been feeling more tired than usual, she put it down to work and parenting. One night while in the shower, she felt a lump in her breast. Luckily, she already had a GP appointment the next day, so she mentioned it to her doctor, who immediately referred her for further tests.

About a week and a half later, she attended SKG Bunbury for a mammogram. When the seriousness became clear, the team arranged for an ultrasound, biopsy, and fine needle aspiration of the lymph nodes, all on the same day.

On 6 December 2024, Kitty received her official diagnosis.

Treatment included a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy, followed by four rounds of chemotherapy, a left axillary clearance, and radiation to the lumpectomy site and clavicular lymph nodes. The biggest challenge was organising travel to Perth for appointments while managing family life, but with support, she made it work.

Throughout her treatment, Kitty stayed focused on her family and maintaining normal routines. Including taking the kids to school, staying involved in exercise, and continuing to play squash, which she found beneficial both physically and mentally.

Now, after 10 months off, she has returned to work and is enjoying reconnecting with her colleagues. Life is busy, the kids are having fun back in that routine, and she continues to get better each day.
